Volunteer Stories: Alix and Justin

Ever wondered what it’s like to volunteer with National Museums Scotland?

Alix and Justin chatted with us about their volunteer roles and what volunteering means to them. They both volunteer as part of the Scotland 365 project, which aims to transform how National Museums Scotland engages young people aged 16-25. Scotland 365 involves a wide range of young people through events and activities, training opportunities, research, volunteer placements, social media and more.

Q: What is your volunteer role?

I am part of the National Museum of Flight team and we have been working to produce an event targeting 16-25 year olds to encourage them to visit the site.

Q: What is your favourite part of volunteering?

I love volunteering as it gives me a chance to meet like-minded people, gain valuable new skills and feel like my voice is being heard and making a difference.

Q: How has volunteering impacted your life?

Volunteering has helped me find confidence in myself and develop my abilities to consider every option and use critical thinking and data to produce a successful event plan that will be able to connect with others and hopefully help them experience the same joy in museums that I do.
