Free programme of inclusive volunteering workshops

Calling all volunteer-involving organisations in Scotland! With support from Scottish Government, we are offering a series of half-day workshops, with ongoing support in-between, on developing inclusive volunteer programmes by identifying and addressing barriers to engagement.

Over the next six months to March 2023, 10 volunteer-involving organisations will have the opportunity to work with inclusive recruitment specialists from AAI Employability. Participants will be supported to develop inclusive volunteering action plans to address values, assumptions, policies and practices that may be excluding people and reinforcing inequality.

The programme will be delivered online. Each organisation will be partnered with an organisation outside of their sector to help develop a network and promote shared learning. AAI Employability will create a bespoke Steering Group to provide expert support, analysis and lived experience tailored to the needs of each participating organisation.

The first workshops will be held in October/November, followed by a second in December/January and then a final workshop in February/March. Further tailored support and access to expert advice will be available between these dates as required.

How to participate

Would your organisation like to be considered for this opportunity? We are looking for:

• 5 heritage sector organisations
• 5 non-heritage sector organisations

You would need to be able to commit to three half-day workshops and to be able to work on tasks between these. Participating organisations will also be invited to share lessons they learn in terms of planning, overcoming barriers and identifying opportunities through the Make Your Mark Volunteer Organisers Network monthly programme of events next year.

In return, your team will have been guided and supported to become more inclusive in their approaches to volunteering and create an inclusive volunteering action plan tailored to the needs of your organisation. You’ll have the opportunity to explore issues, test out ideas, identify data gaps, learn how to overcome barriers and make links with other organisations going through the same process.

If you’d like to be considered for this opportunity, email hello@makeyourmark.scot by 10 October with:

  1. A two-sentence outline of what your organisation would like to get from the training.
  2. Number of staff from your organisation who would be participating (max of 5).
